Afforestation activity at Police Bhavan

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) joined forces with the Ramanagara District Police Department in March 2018 with the goal of creating a natural ecosystem around the district police station and local community. Through this collaboration both TKM and the Department of Police strived towards achieving this common goal. The conservation of plants that are of native species that could also provide a habitat for native species of fauna.

The plantation was split into 4 main areas that now surrounds the police station with each segment further split into different concepts. These concepts include an area allocated to different types of forest species within Karnataka, a section that uses traditional Indian conservation concepts such as Nakshatra Vana and Rashi Vana, an area for fruit trees and timber wood species, and lastly at the front of the station a plot for the most beautiful seasonal flowers and trees.

The project covers an acre of land and features over 50 species of different plants. 250 participants consisting of people from TKM, the Police Department, and students from TTTI all playing a crucial role in the success of the project by individually lay the roots of the 1100 trees and plants that is now surrounding the police station.

Plans have also been put in place to sustain the different zones. Observational checks are being conducted every 15 days to check for pests and diseases, and if there are any physical damages to the plants. Constant watering depending on the seasonal changes and weeding are being conducted at least once every 15 days to provide the plantation with optimal conditions for it to thrive into a forest.
