On 13 August 2018, The Toyota, Lexus & Hino dealership, Borneo Motors (Singapore), is the first dealership in Asia to join the new Castrol Carbon Neutral Programme. The programme is designed to help dealerships cut their carbon emissions and also help motorists offset the carbon they create while driving.
With a personal interest in sustainability and low carbon, Ms Jasmmine Wong, Managing Director, Borneo Motors (Singapore) spoke about the new project: “We are delighted to be working with Castrol and BP Target Neutral to reduce the carbon emissions of our dealership and that of our customers. The team at Borneo Motors (Singapore) is eager to play our part in contributing to a sustainable environment for future generations.”
Borneo Motors (Singapore) will become a certified carbon neutral business through the Castrol programme that will be a long-term commitment. By increasing efficiency and offsetting any unavoidable emissions, Borneo Motors (Singapore) will be reducing and offsetting its current carbon footprint of 4,042 tonnes to zero from its day-to-day operations throughout its six sites in Singapore. This saving is equivalent to the carbon emissions from 847 return flights from Singapore to London.
BP Target Neutral also has access to a portfolio of carbon reduction projects globally, such as biogas projects in China, and cookstove installation schemes in Mexico and Peru which resulted in a very positive impact on respiratory health for families in rural households who manage to cook away from open firewood and coal stoves. These are funded by a carbon credit system which one carbon credit is equivalent to one tonne of carbon reduced or avoided. Borneo Motors (Singapore) will purchase carbon credits for any remaining emissions to go carbon neutral.
