Building alternative water sources for TMP plants

Like several other countries in the Southeast Asian tropics, the Philippines experiences rainfall for at least half a year. Despite an abundance of rainfall however, certain parts of the country still experience water shortages or droughts during hot summer months. And with climate change as an ongoing global issue, the Philippines is at risk for a stark increase in recurrent droughts. This is where initiatives like Toyota Motor Philippines’ (TMP) rainwater harvesters can truly make a difference.

Harvesting rainfall for summer days

The practice of rainwater harvester involves the collection of run-off from roof surfaces. The water gathered here is used for a variety of purposes: irrigation, flushing, and manufacturing, for example. It may also be processed into potable drinking water. Excess water is stored for future use. This entire process of rainwater harvesting is an environmentally friendly one, reducing water wastage during the rainy season, and ensuring a supply during drier months.

Water conservation for a healthier planet

It is Toyota’s long-term goal to minimise and optimise water usage across our plants, affiliates, and dealers across the globe. Every drop of water saved plays a part; over time, this will culminate in a healthier water cycle and climate for local environments.
