In September 2017, Assembly Services Sdn. Bhd. (ASSB), a subsidiary of UMW Toyota Motor, donated a total of RM10,000 to the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA). ASSB then collaborated with the city council to organize and execute the “Shah Alam Trees for Life Program”.
The funds received from the donation was channeled into providing a greener landscape with cleaner air for the city and its residents with a wide variety of trees being planted in a joint effort between ASSB and MBSA as a continuation of the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050.
The program had a total of 300 participants including 50 Toyota employees. Mr. Noryzal Bin Zainal Abidin Councilor Zone 3 attended the event on behalf of the Shah Alam Mayor and Mr Zainal Jaini, General Manager of Plant Admin represented the top management of ASSB.
Mr. Shahrin Ahmad, Head of Corporate and Public Relations of Shah Alam City Council, said that 2,500 seedlings, namely Barringtonia spp., Samanea Saman, Tectona Grandis, Ficus spp., Tecoma spp. & fruit trees were planted in the area during the program. Mr. Shahrin also shared that the MBSA is committed to making Shah Alam a carbon low-end city by 2030 through various programs under the “Green Nature Initiative”.
With many programs varying from Shah Alam No Vehicle Day to the preparation of the Shah Alam Bicycle Track, both the City Council and Toyota are committed to turning Selangor into a greener, more beautiful city state.
