Protecting Java’s coastlines and marine life with 110,000 Mangroves Plantation

Toyota has been an active supporter of reforestation, with the firm belief that doing so can bring about positive climate change. PT. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) recently expanded its conservation efforts to Central Java, where the planting of 110,000 mangrove trees took place at Maroon Beach in Semarang City. Special guests were present at this event, including the Governor of Central Java Province, representatives from the Ministry of Environment & Forestry, TMMIN management executives, and Toyota affiliates.

Protecting Java’s Shores

Toyota has developed numerous programmes to improve local environments, protect biodiversity and ecosystems, and strengthen our planet’s overall climate. In line with the 6th Toyota Environmental Action Plan, we are pledge to not only environmental protection, but also building a sustainable society that is in harmony with nature. The Maroon Beach mangrove planting event is just one thread in the larger canvas of our plans to protect Indonesia’s nature habitats; in particular in Java and the island of Bali.

Supporting Marine Biodiversity

Over the years, we have supported the planting of more than 700,000 mangroves in Java alone. Mangrove forests play a large role in coastal ecologies, acting as nesting and migratory sites for a vast variety of animals. These plants also have immense environmental value due to their ability to absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide – thus improving the quality of the atmosphere around them. The dense roots of mangroves also trap sand and other sediments along shorelines, providing a layer of protection against abrasion, erosion, and even damage from natural disasters (like hurricanes and typhoons). In addition to guarding Java’s natural environment, these forests will also protect local communities living on and around the coastline.
