Believing in the importance of cultivating the younger generation on environmental preservation and conservation, UMW Toyota Motor and the Ministry of Education collaborated and founded Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) in 2001.
Since then, UMW Toyota Motor has allocated over RM6.7million in environmental education and activities for the future generation. Aimed at solving environmental issues among their respective communities, TEY mainly focuses on solid waste management, clean water, global warming, and recycling. All of which are topics that UMW Toyota Motor looks to address both locally and globally.
Through the use of Toyota’s “problem-solving, action-oriented approach” youths are able to effectively solve environmental problems within their community. This also ensures that the participants are able to address issues in a rational, effective and efficient manner.
Since Toyota Eco Youth was founded, a total of 235 schools and over 2,500 students, teachers and principals have participated in the program. To further motivate the participants, the Grand Prize winner will receive a cash prize of RM10,000, while the second and third place will receive RM7,000 and RM5,000 respectively. Sub-categories such as Best Presentation, Best Exhibition and Best Blog Site winners will take home RM1,000 each and the Most Supportive Teacher will receive RM500.
Toyota’s investment in the future generation brings us a step closer to achieving the end goals of Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, as the younger generation exercise more eco-friendly habits.
