Since 2016, Toyota has been actively contributing to environmental conservation efforts by donating 2 Hilux vehicles a year for 5 years to NGOs. This is to further aid conservation efforts as part of the “Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050” as Toyota strives to go beyond zero environmental impact and achieve a net positive impact on the environment.
In March 2018, Toyota moved a step closer to their vision by donating 1 Hilux vehicle each to Viet Nature (a Bird Life partner) in Vietnam and Conservation International in Indonesia. The Hilux was chosen for its outstanding durability and reliability over the last 50 years. Toyota believes that the model is best suited for the off-road terrains where conservation efforts are conducted and will continue working with NGOs to assess the locations that require support from Toyota’s contributions annually.
Recognized as being amongst the countries with the richest biodiversity, both Vietnam and Indonesia have been put under serious pressure and are quickly losing their biodiverse ecosystem due to factors such as weak conservation efforts in recent years. Toyota aims to tackle these issues head on and help preserve the ecological balance as Vietnam and Indonesia join Mexico, Brazil, and South Africa in their bid to protect the environment from the Toyota Hilux.
